Sarasota County School District announced it will be closings schools until further notice today in an attached statement.

Important Message

  • 9/30 10 AM UPDATE:
Over the past several days we’ve had teams assessing our schools and facilities for damage from Hurricane Ian. Sadly, there has been much devastation in our county and schools including massive power outages, downed power lines, flooding, cellular & cable outages, basic water and plumbing issues, and damage to many of our school structures. At this point in time, Sarasota County Schools will remain closed until further notice. We will reopen once we can ensure the safety and wellbeing of all our students and employees in our schools.
We still have many guests occupying our schools; latest shelter updates:
North County shelters are now closed with the exception of Tatum Ridge (medically dependent) and Philippi Shores (general population).
Due to rising waters and road closures, we are in the process of consolidating and transporting our South County Shelters to Phillippi Shores for a more stable environment for our sheltered guests.
Communication is unstable throughout the county, when possible, please follow us on social media (@sarasotaschools) and be sure to visit www.sarasotacountyschools.net/hurricane for the latest updates. For other county information, please visit www.scgov.net.
    Thank you and be safe!
